School kids need footbridge

July 11, 2014 By Administrator

Looks to me like a group of school children could use a footbridge to help them attend school every day, even in the rainy season.

This is another project by the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation.
This video explains it:

Wikipedia says this: “Sarangani is a province of the Philippines located in the SOCCSKSARGEN region. Its capital is Alabel. With a 230 kilometres (140 mi) coastline along the Sarangani Bay and Celebes Sea, the province is at the southernmost tip of Mindanao Island, and borders South Cotabato and Davao del Sur to the north, and Davao Occidental to the east.”

Here are some statistics from the Dept. of Education:

Dan Cook supports keeping libraries alive and well

January 30, 2010 By Administrator

dictionary-etc“I really think old Asimov hit the mark,” says my friend and mentor, Dan D. Cook. He sent me the following quotation, and it’s worth repeating.

(Cook is past president of Friends of the Phoenix Public Library, and a powerful advocate for a healthy library system throughout our city, county, state, and nation.)

“I received the fundamentals of my education in school, but that was not enough. My real education, the superstructure, the details, the true architecture, I got out of the public library. For an impoverished child whose family could not afford to buy books, the library was the open door to wonder and achievement, and I can never be sufficiently grateful that I had the wit to charge through that door and make the most of it. Now, when I read constantly about the way in which library funds are being cut and cut, I can only think that the door is closing and that American society has found one more way to destroy itself.” – Isaac Asimov

A new way to look at the world

March 17, 2009 By Administrator

EarthShow-Mapping Worlds, a new way to look at the U.S. and the world. Rick Hodges, Content Manager, says, “Our site (actually two in one) presents hundreds of data sets about the 50 US states and world countries in animated map form, and allows downloads of data and images.

“It’s a free resource for research, teaching, presentations and slideshows, etc. Maps like ours help you see numbers in a new way–literally. By the way, we plan to offer the world site in six language versions soon. Also, we are about ready to roll out a lesson plan for teachers to use the site as an educational tool in the classroom.”

Give it a try. You may find a something just for your classroom, home schooling project, or other project. Here’s the embedded version:
