Need Hearing Aids, but Can’t Afford Them?

March 4, 2007 By Administrator

Need good hearing aids for yourself or someone in your family, but don’t have the money for them?

There is help! AUDIENT. This marvelous organization charges about 50% of what you would pay most providers, and it offer extremely high quality hearing aids.AUDIENT offers assistance to low-income, hearing-impaired seniors, children, and families who are U.S. residents.

Based in the Pacific Northwest, AUDIENT is a nonprofit, nationwide program affiliated with the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing. It offers quality hearing aids and care at a significantly lower cost.

Why promote AUDIENT? Because I have had a significant hearing loss since 1990, and every three to five years I have to pay a minimum of $3,000 for hearing aids. No upgrades. Every time I need new ones, I have to dip into savings, knowing that I’ll be dipping in another few years because of changes in hearing and the fact that aids wear out. Or a little of both.

Allow me to share a bit about this remarkable program. There are three important points to know about AUDIENT:

(1) AUDIENT Candidates will be income qualified. (see chart below)
(2) AUDIENT will refer qualified participant to an AUDIENT Hearing Care Provider in their area.
(3) All AUDIENT participants will pay AUDIENT fees: $760 to $900 for one hearing aid or $1,290 – $1,500 for two
hearing aids. This cost includes: hearing aid(s), ear mold(s), a fitting, three adjustments and a limited warranty.
