Home Made Weighted Blankets for Comfort

adi-goldstein-339959What is a weighted blanket and why would you need one? In short, it is a normal blanket with added stuffing to add some weight to the body while you sleep. Many people do not realize that weighted blankets offer many benefits to those with trouble sleeping. The evenly distributed weight of the blanket over the body acts as a comforter making it ideal for those with insomnia, restless leg syndrome, anxiety and even autism. So what do you need to make your own? Gather up some:

  • Fabric or an old blanket

  • Needle and thread

  • Poly pellets

  • Measuring tape

  • Scissors

  • Pins

  • Wash away craft tape

  • Sewing machine

Should you be making your blanket for a child with autism, ensure that one side is plain as patterns can distract from sleep. The following article provides full instructions on making your own weighted blankets and provides more facts on their benefits.
