INTRO
|
* What a pleasure to recommend the website "Fashion After 50." I've
been following it for some time, and it's encouraging to me since I fit
nicely into that category. After 50. Enid Sefcovic, Ph.D., runs the site,
and recently began implementing a makeover. Classy. Tasteful. Find the
site at http://fashionafter50.com - links to her recommendations and
reviews of products she's bought and (sometimes) returned. And reviews of
companies. She provides fair reviews, showing both sides of the buying
spectrum. Nice touch.
* Here's a comment from long-time friend, colleague and subscriber,
John Counsel:
The last issue's intro (Cult of Volume) really resonates with me.
"Quality, not quantity" has been a mantra for me since forever.
People often ask me how come I get such high conversion rates from
such relatively low traffic. They're typically dumbfounded when I
explain the degree to which I go to qualify and disqualify traffic
to my sites so that I get genuinely eager, tightly-targeted,
qualified prospects who WANT what I offer for all the right reasons.
Here's an explanation relative to network marketing which really
shocks most people until they see the results for themselves.

Thanks, Judy. Another great issue!

Featured Client: BAUGHMAN AGE MANAGEMENT MEDICINE
|
I met Charles Baughman, M.D. when he performed a colonoscopy on me some
years ago. He impressed me then, and he still does. Well grounded in
gastroenterology, he decided to study Anti-Aging, Age Management Medicine.
He is also deeply involved in continuing education, and has a wealth of
knowledge on new medical/physical concepts, blended with his knowledge
and experience as a GI specialist.
He and his wife, Priscilla (RN) have a practice in Arizona and another in
Lafayette, Louisiana (their home state). I'm privileged to manage his
website, which was designed by Elsbeth Oggert (http://www.ItsAnOffice.com).
This includes uploading his articles, health tips, and recipes to his blog.
The recipes (many of which are Cajun), are created by Priscilla Baughman.
http://www.GrowYounger.us. And just lately, Holly Clegg has given them
permission to publish her mouth-watering recipes.

ARTICLE - Gerry McGovern Excerpts
|
* On the Web, people are on a journey. They know what they want to do. If
you want to engage with them you must become part of their journey. You must
not try to change it....The customer is not a blank canvas you paint your
message on. Most customers live very rich lives. If we want to reach them
we have to go where they are, and we have to get into their flow.
* When customers visit your website they have two things they can spend:
time and money. They do not think it good value if they have to spend a lot
of their time. They want to spend the minimum amount of time in order to
get the job done.
* Too many web teams are focused on spending the customers' time when they
really should be focused on saving the customer's time.
* In general, humans don't warm to facts and statistics. We love individual
stories. Some say that "there are lies, damned lies and statistics." But where
do personal stories lie? Would you believe the personal story of one person who
found a particular car unsafe, or statistics that say the same car is safe?
* What is so exciting today is that we can get all the statistical data we need.
This is driven by two things. Firstly, we spend a lot of time on the Web, where
we leave behind massive quantities of data and content recording what they do.
Secondly, computer power allows us to cheaply analyze these massive quantities
of data.
* Today, those who make decisions based on data and not opinion, will make the
best decisions.

TECH TIPS BY TERENCE KIERANS
|
Simplify data entry using the built in form
Does your worksheet have more columns than can fit on your computer screen? Then
use Excel's built in data form and save all that scrolling.
2003
1. If necessary, add a column header to each column in the worksheet range.
(Make sure that there are no blank lines in the range of data).
2. Select any cell within the spreadsheet range and go to "Data / Form".
3. Select "New" to enter a new record, and Excel displays a blank form.
2007
1. If necessary, add a column header to each column in the range or table.
( Make sure that there are no blank lines in the range of data).
2. Select a cell in the range to which you want to add the form.
3. To add the "Form" button to the "Quick Access Toolbar":
Click the arrow next to the "Quick Access Toolbar".
Click on "More Commands.
In the ""Choose commands from" box, click All Commands"".
Select the "Form" button.
Click Add, and then click OK.
4. On the Quick Access Toolbar, click Form
Enter data in the first field, tab to the next, and continue to enter data in
each field, tabbing between fields. Press [Enter] to go to the next blank record.
If there are calculations in your spreadsheet, Excel will display only the results
on the form. This prevents users from inadvertently overwriting formulas.
To delete a displayed record, click Delete. A warning box reminds you that the
record will be permanently deleted after you click OK.

WORD OF THE MONTH: Keypal
|
The online equivalent of a pen pal. A key pal is a person you correspond
with using a keyboard and e-mail (versus using a pen to write handwritten
letters). These e-mail messages are written back and forth between two or
more people with some kind of regularity. If you correspond with someone
frequently or on a regular basis, you and your friend are key pals.

JUDY'S CORNER

Jerome, Arizona. "Located high on top of Cleopatra Hill (5,200 feet) between
Prescott and Flagstaff," says the website at http://www.azjerome.com/, "is the
historic copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona. Once known as the wickedest
town in the west, Jerome was a copper mining camp, growing from a settlement
of tents to a roaring mining community. Four disastrous fires destroyed large
sections of the town during its early history, resulting in the incorporation
of the City of Jerome in 1899."
My brother and I drove up there this week, and reveled in its history and
art. And food: the Mile High Grill created the best hamburger I have ever
eaten. Layered with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and homemade Thousand Island
dressing in a fresh, delicious bun.
