Virus scams are everywhere, and they usually come through the spoofed email address of someone you know and trust. It’s a crazy world.
So, what to do if you get an email, either from a person or from a source that seems legitimate? Google to the rescue.
Search for “web virus scan” and find a site with a name that is legitimate, like:
Free Virus Scan | Online Virus Scanner from ESET
www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
Microsoft Safety Scanner – Antivirus | Remove Spyware, Malware …
www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/?
AVG Online Virus Scanner | Scan Web Pages | AVG LinkScanner …
www.avg.com.au/resources/web-page-scanner/??
My personal choice is eset, which is my computer virus security program. But regardless, find one of these, and Select/Copy/Paste the link to the online site for testing. Do NOT click on the link until/unless it’s been cleared by a legitimate source.
And BOOKMARK the site for ease of use!
