Have you ever been amazed at the talent that lies close to home? In friends. In relatives. On Christmas day, my niece, Michelle Burton, let me read some of her poetry.. Allow me to share one with you….
A Lonely Soldier
By Michelle M. Burton 12/1/06
Day by day,
They fell,
One after another,
But what could I do,
I couldn’t cry,
I couldn’t weep,
I became a lonely soldier.
I watched them fall,
I couldn’t do a thing,
I had a war to fight,
Each time we fought,
more of them would fall,
They were my friends,
I became a lonely soldier.
They died,
I lived,
It wasn’t and isn’t fair,
Why couldn’t I join them,
Why couldn’t it have been me,
I became a lonely soldier.
