If you're interested in drugs that can damage your ears, Hyperacusis, Tinnitus, effective coping strategies, etc., you may want to read this. Note from Judy: I had three surgeries (within about a year and a half) years ago, and each required an anesthetic. It was during this time that my hearing started changing significantly. Within a few years, I had an audiogram that showed I had a significant hearing loss. I would have recognized that I had a loss much sooner, but my diagnosis is for a Low Register/Reverse Slope loss, and because we can hear high pitches, it's rare and difficult to diagnose. It wasn't until years later that I learned that some anesthetics contribute to hearing loss. Plus, my hearing loss was genetic. But that doesn't mean other experiences can't trigger it.

For those of you who missed the big news in Desktop Publishing, after 25 years publishing Before & After, John McWade joined the staff of lynda.com full time, to teach graphic design to a wider audience than ever before. He says, "As many of you know, lynda.com is all about 'learn by example' training in design tools and skills. What I love is its ethos, its vision, its vibe (so fresh), the quality of its staff (so impressive), and the intelligence of its work. Others obviously feel this way, too. Just last month lynda.com was acquired for $1.5 billion by LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, with 350 million members! To say this is a big opportunity would be an understatement!"

Given what McWade said about LinkedIn buying Lynda.com, if you have a business, I encourage you to create a sparkling, fullbodied profile in LinkedIn. It's a winner.

Grammar Tip - supervocalics
Supervocalics are, says Eric W. Chaikin, "a word, phrase, or proper noun which contains A,E,I,O,U once each, but no Y." Neville Fogarty says "Supervocalic is an adjective describing a word or phrase containing each of the five vowels? - A, E, I, O and U? - exactly once. Examples include: sequoia, ambidextrous, and Julia Roberts." In any event, it can mean some enjoyable time spent around a table, campfire, or at the beach.

DID YOU KNOW THAT a person who leaves a country emigrates from it? When a French person, for example leaves France, he/she is considered a French emigrant. A person who comes into your country immigrates, and is considered an immigrant. Jacques, a French emigrant, immigrated to Brazil.
