 I'm getting used to a new e-mail program, The Bat, and the more I use it the more I like it. Why did I change from Eudora? It became corrupted. I did everything to restore it--downloading new versions, etc.--but it wouldn't work right, so I gave up and moved to Outlook Express.
I had OE working fairly well, but one day my anti-virus checker found SirCam and quarantined it. I knew that if another one sneaked in, it could open up on my hard drive and begin sending random files to people in my address book. Too many risks. I read a message on a list by one of my idols, Abigail Marshall of Dyslexia, the Gift, and decided to download it and give it a try. If it's good enough for Abigail, it's good enough for me.
The Bat is able to recognize some viruses and worms, and gives warnings about opening such files. It doesn't use the Windows-dependent HTML viewer, and has its own address book.
I've set up three separate POP accounts and they work fine. Sub-directories are interchangeable. What I especially like are the templates that can be set up any number of ways. There's a learning curve for the entire program, but it's not that severe. It appears that all fonts for creating e-mail are monospaced, but one soon gets used to this. It has spellcheck, a search function, tells you how many items are in each directory, and many other features that make it valuable.
