Dog trainer rescues baby goat

Karen Shirk, executive director of 4 Paws for Ability, is by nature one who rescues animals. In fact, Shirk and her organization train rescued dogs as service dogs for children with disabilities. She just sent me this picture of a little girl goat whose mother died when she was born. The doeling, Billie Jean, was left in the field to die.

“The man said that if she had been a boy he would have clubbed her to death,” says Shirk, “but because she was a girl, he left her to see if one of the others would take her in so he’d have another breeding goat.”

She is 12 days old and Karen is bottle feeding her. This little sweetie has had plenty of offers for adoption, so that won’t be a problem.

I love baby goats. I adored mine. Of course, when they get older and start destroying things, they are far less cute… but at this stage they are simply darling!
