Tis the season to be jolly, but some people can be fooled by fake information, so be careful. With all the holidays in December, it's a perfect time for viruses to appear. If you receive what you think is a message from UPS, FedEx, DHL, or USPS stating "Delivery Failure," be careful. There is a scam going around. These messages will say that there's an invoice attached. Do NOT print out or open the invoice. This scam has been circulating for years, and is constantly updated to look legitimate, but all delivery companies and Canada Post are on record that this is a scam. Why does it keep making the rounds? Because new people enter the Internet for the first time every day, and these people may not be knowledgeable about such things. And because anyone, in a hurry, might just click on it. The best thing you can do, besides being careful, is to get a good anti-virus program. There are many that work. One of the best, because it doesn't clog your system with files, keeps current with viruses, and is updated daily, is eSet. I've had it for a few years and it has saved me from serious computer problems.

Every year my brother, David Crook, flies from Arizona to Washington State to help with his son-in-law's Christmas Tree Harvest. This is a huge undertaking, and the preparation is ongoing, as there are Christmas trees that are very small, and on upward. Acres and acres. I spent Christmas with the John Burtons (along with the Crooks) about five years ago and it was magical. Lots of snow, and with a family of eight kids, some grown, some in school, it was such fun. Just wanted to share the picture David took as they got their first real snow. Probably not so much fun for the employees as it is for kids, but typical of that area this time of year.
Guest post by my friend Becky Blanton I was feeling bad about the fact people distance themselves from me because they say I'm "too intense." Then I asked someone what that meant and she said, "You speak up."
- When a man on the plane began talking about raping women and hurting women and a 10-year-old girl and her mother cowered, afraid to say anything — I spoke up, and even though I was quaking in fear, I confronted him when he tried to intimidate me.
- When a mother was beating and slapping her son, confined to a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy, I told her to stop, made her stop and called 911. No one else in the restaurant could meet my gaze or her....too ashamed or scared to "get involved."
- When a family was throwing rocks, destroying a national monument I spoke up, and took their photo...
- When a kid in a middle school where I was giving a talk to a classroom was being bullied in the hallway by three boys, I stopped it.
There aren't enough words or phrases to express my thanks to God for family, friends, clients, and colleagues like you. Truly, you light up my life. May your day be filled with sweetness rather than stress, as you share this day with others. May you, your families, and your pets have a very special day. You deserve the very best! And I will soon be off to enjoy dinner with Ed and Michelle Dias and family, Janet Crook, and Ruthann Clemens. Ed is a true chef and Michelle an amazing hostess . . . but most of all, my excitement comes from spending time with special people. And here's a toast to the memory of all those who are no longer with us, but who made such an impact in our lives. Happy Thanksgiving. Judy
