Why did I wait so long?
My computer, which began its life as a very nice clone in 2002, has been giving me problems for about a year.
Sure, it was slow, but the slowing down process is so gradual that it's difficult to measure it against earlier performance. The first real clues I had were when my browsers didn't work properly. I tried everything in the book, and they still didn't work well. I had to use my notebook for much of my Internet research and Web development.
After a long, convoluted conversation with my brilliant engineer/cousin, Evan Friedmann, we determined that it was my computer system itself, not the browsers. I ran Windows SP2 again, and nothing changed.
That said, I made a decision, and Evan guided me through the process of choosing a computer that would meet my needs as a Web developer and photographer who works in digital graphics.
Last week I bought an HP Pavilion computer that is a keeper. My brother, David, installed it and got it up and running, and it's been working like a dream. Gosh, Adobe Photoshop Elements opens in seconds rather than minutes. Not a single browser problem. And I got a wide-screened monitor so I can see two applications at the same time. Great for editing and Web development.
Why did I wait so long?
